Your Role: Art Teacher

As an Art Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a vital role in shaping the creative minds of our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring you are highly qualified and certified, holding a bachelor’s degree and state certification to teach in public schools.
  • Being present and engaged from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM , Monday through Friday, throughout the school year.
  • Providing appropriate supervision of students during class, breaks, meals, and transitions to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Attending and participating in events outside of normal school hours, such as family nights, student performances, and parent conferences.
  • Researching, designing, and documenting art standards and curricula for students in grades K-4/5-8.
  • Teaching Art to all students Monday through Thursday each week.
  • Leading after-school enrichment programs two days per week, if included in the school’s offerings.
  • Designing and implementing all aspects of the Art program, including coordination with outside providers and vendors.
  • Assisting in the purchase and maintenance of the school’s Art equipment.
  • Providing orientation to staff on the school’s art program during summer training.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Operations/Dean of Students for school events and celebrations.
  • Teaching at least one section of Reading if requested, and integrating academic instruction into Art lessons.
  • Participating in collaborative curriculum development and engaging families in their children’s education.
  • Meeting the school’s “Standards for Excellence in Art Instruction” and demonstrating alignment with our core values.
  • Managing the department folder on the school server to ensure curricular materials are organized and accessible.
  • Meeting with the Principal to review results and plan future actions.
  • Completing all necessary school-wide duties for the smooth functioning of the school.

  • Required Experience:
    • A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools (1-2 years experience preferred).
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

Compensation for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 , determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience and education certifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
