Job Summary

The Sr Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating the credit history of individuals or organizations to identify the risk level of loaning them money. They make recommendations based on the results of their assessments using credit agency tools. They additionally ensure sound credit policies, proper documentation, analysis, and adherence to credit policies.

Review and analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, and other financial data to assess credit risk of perspective borrowers. Determine creditworthiness of borrowers by analyzing financial ratios, debt service coverage, and repayment capacity. Prepare credit approval summaries with this credit information for use in decision-making by the Bank’s Loan Committee and its senior management team. Provide portfolio maintenance and loan servicing in accordance with bank policies.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite new & existing loans.
  • Prepare credit approval summaries & assign risk ratings to current and prospective loans
  • Review & organize credit applications, tax returns, financial statements, and other information necessary for credit analysis.
  • Collect and maintain necessary financial information from borrowers to perform annual reviews
  • Work with relationship managers and Senior Credit Analyst to determine creditworthiness of borrowers in accordance with bank credit policies.
  • Work closely with loan operations personnel for funding of committed loan facilities.
  • Monitor customer’s financial condition, loan performance and repayment history. Take appropriate corrective action, as necessary.
  • Identify deteriorating loan situations in a timely manner and promptly communicate details of such situations to management.
  • Run and review Jack Henry Cognos reports.
  • Distribution of CAS documents to loan committee (backup).
  • Baker Hill (co-administrator).
  • Order site visit inspections for loans requiring annual review.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in finance or accounting
  • At least four years of experience in financial analysis, banking, or a related field
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks as necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct productive and meaningful loan discussions and analysis
  • Basic understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and credit risk analysis
  • Ability to serve clients in a cordial, tactful, and professional manner
  • Good analytical ability to interpret financial information and credit worthiness of applicant
  • Proficient in various bank software including Jack Henry, Moody’s, Word, Baker Hill and Excel

Work Environment

Office-based in Rochester NY office.
