About the Position:

New Durham Chapel is seeking a full time Senior Pastor, who can come alongside our Elder Board, and who can move our congregation into impactful biblical ministry, with an intense focus on biblical disciple making. It is our mission to make disciples, and an incredible opportunity exists in our densely populated and diverse cultural setting to be a church that reaches many nations with the gospel! The Senior Pastor will be a member of the board of Elders; an ex-officio member of all boards, committees, and church organizations; and most importantly, serve as a spiritual leader in the church to point unbelievers to Christ and mature those who are followers of Christ.

Responsibilities:

· Serve at the primary teaching Pastor during the Sunday morning Worship Service.

· Coordinate with the Elders to ensure the pulpit is filled during planned vacation/leave

· Preach expository sermons, founded in scripture, and needful for the congregation

· Assist with mid-Week children’s programs and/or adult bible studies

· Prepare messages for special events as needed (typically 5 to 10 per year)

· With the other Elders

  • Provide vision for the direction of the Church
  • Oversee and manage the entire ministry of the local body
  • Feed, shepherd, and mature the flock
  • Serve as a leader by example with respect to family and character as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

· Supervise other paid church staff, including delegation or reallocation of duties as needed to support ministry needs. These duties should be clearly laid out and would be the basis for an annual job review with the paid staff.

· Coordinate with the Worship Leader to plan Sunday and Special Services

· Coordinate with the media team as needed to provide details necessary for digital outreach.

· Work with the deacons/care team to provide pastoral care to those who are homebound or have other physical needs

· Be able to provide basic counsel/counseling to members struggling in sin, or those with other emotional or spiritual needs.

· Conduct weddings, funerals, and baptisms for Church Members in accordance with the Church Articles of Faith

· Ensure accurate membership and baptism records are reported annually to the Church clerk, and provide a written report to the congregation annually.

· Participate in monthly Elder board meetings, and other as needed leadership meetings.

· Represent the church in community engagements, partnerships, and outreach initiatives

· Annually, develop an adjusted discipleship plan for the development of servants and ministry leaders to serve in the church

· Take the lead, with the chairman of the Elder board, on implementing a strategy to develop and train existing/new lay Elders.

Qualifications and Qualities:

· An overflowing personal faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the furtherance of the Gospel in the local community.

· Have a commitment to prayer and daily devotions

· Be a gifted teacher, passionate about helping others to understand and obey the truth of God’s Word.

· Character congruent with the Biblical requirements of overseer (1 Tim 3; Titus 1)

· Be in full agreement with the Church’s Articles and Faith

· Master of Theology/Divinity preferred

· 5-10 years of Experience as a Senior Pastor or Assistant Pastor

· Significant familiarity with varying ethnicities including Filipino, Chinese, and/or Indian culture

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

· A collaborative mentality and a passion to make disciples
