Job Description Accounts Payable Specialist Consulting Engineering Firm (Civil + Structural) Location: Washington, DC / Northern Virginia | Contract-to-Hire Are you an organized, numbers-minded Accounts Payable professional who thrives in an environment where precision and project impact go hand-in-hand? Our client, a well-established civil/structural engineering consulting firm in the DC Metro area, is looking to bring on a dependable Accounts Payable Specialist to support their growing finance team. With a legacy of delivering infrastructure, environmental, and planning solutions across public and private sectors, this firm needs someone detail-oriented and proactive to ensure their project payables process stays sharp and efficient. We're working directly with their hiring manager to identify someone who understands the nuances of project-based billing and can coordinate closely with both internal project teams and external consultants/vendors. Position Overview: What You'll Be Responsible For Review, match, and process a high volume of AP transactions tied to active engineering projects Ensure timely and accurate coding of invoices to proper project and GL accounts Route invoices for internal approvals, working closely with PMs and department heads Communicate with outside vendors, subconsultants, and internal teams to resolve invoice discrepancies Reconcile vendor statements and assist with weekly check runs or ACH batches Support AP functions during month-end close and coordinate with the Controller or Accounting Manager What We're Looking For At least 2-4 years of recent Accounts Payable experience, ideally in a civil, structural, AEC, or consulting environment Familiarity with project tracking and cost allocation in accounting software (Deltek Vantagepoint, Ajera, QuickBooks Professional Services, or similar) Understanding of how professional services firms process payments against budgets, POs, and contracts High attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to juggle priorities across projects Solid communication and teamwork skills; you'll be working across departments daily Why This Firm?
